Margaret Dixon papers, 1922-1969.

Papers include letters addressed to Dixon as managing editor, some from Louisiana State Penitentiary inmates and political figures discussing prison reform. Also included are personal letters, research notes and writings, materials relating to the National Democratic Convention of 1956, an interview discussing her participation there, and one audio tape recording of a speech delivered by Dixon at a Louisiana AFL-CIO convention, 1969. A resolution passed by the Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, 1960, expresses appreciation for Dixon's services to the University and to the state of Louisiana. Manuscript volumes include 2 notebooks (n.d.) and a scrapbook (1958). Three printed volumes, photographs, invitations, cards, and newspaper clippings are included.

Margaret Dixon, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, was a nationally-known journalist, editor, and dean of the Louisiana capitol press corps. She was editor-in-chief of the Louisiana State University student newspaper "Reveille," a reporter for the Baton Rouge "State-Times" and the New Orleans "Picayune," and managing editor of the Baton Rouge "Morning Advocate."
